# APEX AI Interactive Reports Just Got More Interesting

APEX 26.2 introduces AI-generated computed columns in Interactive Reports. For me, the value is what happens after the calculation. Users can create the measure they need, then use the report’s summaries, groupings, and charts to answer their business question.

I thought APEX AI Interactive Reports were a great idea, but I wanted them to create computed columns too. I even submitted an [idea in the APEX Ideas app](https://apex.oracle.com/ideas/FR-5031). Now [APEX 26.2 introduces that capability](https://blogs.oracle.com/apex/whats-new-in-interactive-reports-and-ai-interactive-reports).

Interactive Reports already support computations. The useful change is letting users describe the calculation they need without knowing how to write the expression. Even more useful is how being able to generate calculated columns opens up the ability to answer more complex questions that would previously have been impossible through AI alone:

* Calculate gross profit from sales revenue minus cost, then summarize it by product category.

* “Which warehouse takes longest to ship?” Calculate calendar days to ship from order and shipment dates, then compare the average by warehouse for shipped orders.

In both these cases, the ability to generate the calculated column makes the summary possible. The underlying SQL query stays the same, and users can review and edit the generated computation. I like that transparency.

Of course, someone who needs AI to write an expression may struggle to check it. Does “profit” mean an amount or a percentage? Does “days to ship” include weekends? Those definitions matter even when the expression runs successfully.

I want users to explore their data without waiting for a developer to add every calculation. For official reporting, though, I still want agreed definitions and validated expressions. **Correct source data doesn't guarantee a correct calculation.**
